The Sony HT-CT500 is a simple 3.1 surround sound home theatre system offered by Sony. This system is comprised of 2 seperate components; a 50mm deep soundbar and subwoofer. The soundbar can be wall mounted or attached to a TV stand, and is split into a left, right and center section, giving the 3.1 surround sound effect.

The subwoofer has a 400 watt onboard amplifier and A/V receiver built in. Sony's S-AIR wireless technology allows wireless audio to be transmitted about 160 feet. The system handles 1080p sources with two HDMI inputs, and one HDMI output, as well as component video inputs and several audio inputs. The DAV-HDX589W is a mid-range model in Sony's BRAVIA line of home theater systems. Of Sony's current DVD surround sound systems, it has the greatest out-of-the-box wireless capabilities, with S-AIR rear speakers and a receiver/amplifier enabling the two rear speakers to function wirelessly, without the purchase of add-ons.

Wireless functionality can also be extended to the other speaker units, or to other rooms, but only with the purchase of additional S-AIR products.
